1983 Ramos Pinto Vintage Port

Post by Rune EG »

After a very nice experience at Ramos Pinto quinta Ervamoira during FTLOP Harvest Tour 2010 I purchased 12 bottles of this vintage port. First bottle was not really up to samme level as at the quinta (88 pts). Since then I have consumed another three bottles. Fortunately the other thre has been much better, and I have found the "drinking window" based on optimal decanting time. This is a blend version. With The Durand I manage to get the cork out in one piece.

Decanting time appears to be very important for this vintage port. After abt 5 - 5.5 hrs the port is opening up and being incredibly pleasant, and then after abt 10 hrs it is moving towards being a bit harsh (being may be a bit too critical!).
Medium to dark red colour. Pleasant full/complex aroma of red berries (strawberry flavor) and figs. Full body. Very smooth, pleasant with a lot of nice structure, long everlasting aftertaste. I will not store this vintage port for many years, but rather enjoy it over the next couple of years. The last bottle was 93 pts.
