Sherry's Makeover

Post by Roy Hersh »

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Good article with a good list of stand by's. Sherry is quite the bargain relative to madeira or port.

It's nice to see sherry get some press here, although of the three most renowned fortifieds, I tend to drink sherry the least. It's an acquired taste I think, especially the dry styles, and for some, it does not go down well at all.

The firm of Alvear in Montilla Morilles also makes some very fine fortified wines that are dead ringers for sherries, and are as good or even better priced, if that is possible. A local store is carrying a vintage dated Pedro Ximinez, which could be great.

A fine amontillado with roasted and salted almonds can be divine, especially in the wintertime. Come to think of it, it's raining outside now on July 1, and still sounds good.

I enjoy Sherry as well.
I even have a few old bottles lying around, including an old Moscatel Sherry.
