1985 Fonseca Vintage Port

Decanted about 7 hours. A deep purple with no signs of age yet showing. Lovely lavender, licorice and plums on the nose. Full bodied yet silky smooth, mainly loaded with plums, this shows amazingly young. Noticeable tannins are well balanced and the finish lasts a long time. A fantastic VP that will last many many more years (decades really).

Great note and I fully second your analysis. Had it in september and it was truly great. Need to find some more bottles for the future but sadly they are $130+ a bottle here in Denmark [dash1.gif]

Andy,

Given your druthers, would you stick with the same decant or change the length of time next time, if it was soon?

I ask because I am doing a side-by-side single blind exercise this weekend to compare and contrast this to a 1987 Vargellas. I know you'll say this is not a fair fight, but I'd like to see the outcome and not rely on palate memory. Having them together, "blind" should be interesting. [shrug.gif]

For my bottle 7 hours seemed to be about right at the beginning of it showing so well (I took a couple small sips earlier...shh, don't tell anyone). So would recommend sticking to at least that long, probably a bit longer.

Sounds like a fun comparison and blind is even better!
