1983 Dow Vintage Port

Post by David Spriggs »

Dark color. Darker than I would think a 30 year old wine would be. Inviting nose! Smells like Port, but no spirity burn in the nose. Stong fruit entry. Lot's of plum and black current. Really suave in the mid-palate. Great texture. Just a touch of unresolved tannins in the very long finish. This is a very strong 1983 VP. There is no corkiness (yeah!) and the spirit is totally under control. Delicious and an easy drink. A real crowd pleaser! My only knowck on the wine is that it's stil a bit linear - in other words, there is not as much secondary development in the nose and palate as you might expect. Still, the wine is quite young and has a long life ahead.
