2011 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage Port

Post by David Spriggs »

Just lighter than opaque. Lovely nose. Subtle strawberry and blackberry. Intense! All black fruit on the palate. There is a bit of heat in the finish. There seems to be something masking the fruit. A bit chunky – maybe a bit clumsy compared to the 2011 Taylor. I then waited for another bottle to be poured. Second bottle: Way better than the previous bottle (or possibly it had more air). Very expansive on the mid-palate. There is a crystalline aspect to the tannins. The acidity becomes clear in the tail end of the finish. Such a fresh Port! The best Taylor Vinha Velha that I’ve ever had! This is my wine of the tasting! 96-98+ points
