1998 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port
15 years old and still has an opaque color. The nose says VP with big roasted cherries and an inviting earthiness. BIG, BIG entry. Totally coats the palate. "Luscious" mouth feel. Chocolate and blackberries. Medium length finish with very good acidity. You want to just keep drinking this as soon as you finish it. Hard to put down
This is one of my favorite Vesuvio. Yes, 1998 - who would have thought. A total sleeper, but it's very good. (I shouldn't even be talking about it) It's not in the same league as the 1994 and 2003, but it is so delicious -- what more are you waiting for. It might improve a bit, but I think it will lose some fruit and thus lose some of what makes it so good now. Fantastic Port if you like them on the young side. 93 points.

If only they weren't so well packaged, I would be tempted to try a '98 (or 94 for that matter), but can't bring myself to open one of those foot lockers... I think with my '98, I have not even opened the outer cardboard box...

I was on the fence as to take my vertical to 1998 or not. Like Moses, I don't want to pull the first bottle from the OWC, but David's note make me thinks it should be added to the list. I think I'm going to open the case. Unlike Moses, while I have the outer cardboard box still, the seal on that was broken as my bottles were shipped separately.
How long did you decant this one David?

No decant. Pop and pour! Several days later the wine remains delicious!

Like many of the SQVP's from this vintage ... high quality!
