1967 Croft Quinta da Roeda

Post by John M. »

Purchased from Winebid by a friend in Fall 2013--Oporto Bottled in 1969--this was a leaker, level mid-shoulder. After given to me, began to leak again so drunk within two weeks. Tonged bottle, cork was totally spongy yet could distinctly read year and name. Immediate cooked flower note--promising. Pink out of the bottle, it darkened to a light brown red brick color; clear and garnet by the 4th hour (timed decant to drink in 4-6 hour window). The nose was a bit earthy with raisins or a cooked over ripe grape and a touch of coffee. Moderate weight. Light mouth feel, a spicy mineral taste (I've read "brambles" in other TNs and would agree--sort of the aroma of cut green brush). Hints of cooked red fruits. The finish is moderate, lingers but lightly. Sometimes a bit too strong on the alcohol; a little sweet. Quite enjoyable and glad it showed well. Lovely wine--Had 1/4 bottle left and put in small bottle and sealed it. Drank next evening--held up well and much the same taste and nose...slightly mellower.

I felt it a 92, maybe 93. My trusted friend thought 94--so I settled on...

Thanks for the impression as this is a Port we don't get to see many reviews on! [cheers.gif]
