While loading up my new fridge and re-arranging things, I discovered a 1976 Smith Woodhouse LBV that I'd completely forgotten about. According to the "What Port(s) have you purchased this week?" thread I bought it earlier this year along with some 1983 Ramos Pinto VP, but I don't remember doing it!

This tasting seems like a perfect opportunity to open it!

No, it came from a store in Illinois where I found some 1983 Ramos Pinto. I probably added the LBV to fill out the 6-pack.

Found '97 and '99 Niepoort LBVs in Buffalo and will schlep them back for the tasting! According to wine-searcher, apparently this shop was the only place in the country with them. I know Niepoort is tougher to find anyway, but is Niepoort LBV that rare in the US?

Older ones, yes. Newer ones are a little easier.

Niepoort's former importer was ... let's just say, focused on the top name Burgs in their portfolio, whilst ignoring Dirk's Ports for the most part.

I have my two LBVs for this tasting. I managed to round up a Taylor 1999 LBV and a Quinta de Ventozelo LBV 1998. This will be for Vic and myself. I have a line on a couple of 1995 Smith Woodhouse LBVs for a good price that I might snag as well, but am still emailing with the company.

Ventozolo, that's the largest Quinta in the Douro, am I right? :0)

In all seriousness, before the trivia answer, I'd never heard of this Quinta and I'm excited to try it. Thanks for finding it!

Alas, the stupid online retailer sent me an email yesterday saying that my entire order of ports was out of stock. I had five different ports in that order and, nada. Someone should tell that store to enter the 90's with real time inventory on the web. :/.

Now I have to find other LBVs. Hopefully my Smith Woodhouse lead comes through.
