1980 Dow Vintage Port

Had this over the last 5 days and must say this is a very very nice VP. Still very opaque in colour, lovely fresh and fruity nose and a fruitbomb in my mouth (but never too sweet!). There is a lot to taste, red fruit like cherry's and strawberry's, some chocolat, berry's and prunes. There is a lot of concentration, but it stays elegant and well balanced. Very nice medium/long finish. Just lovely.
I'm not an expert but I expect I can drink my other bottles over many years to come.

I'm glad that the Dow showed well. It's probably my favorite from 1980. I also like the Graham's and GC (as others had noted).

I've been touting this Port since 1995 when I first got on the internet. I had a bunch even before that and have continued to buy cases of this throughout the 1990's and still have nearly 2 cases left. It just keeps getting better and better. It is the class of the vintage. I also really like the Graham's, and Gould Campbell. That being said, two dark horses from 1980 that are still excellent today are FERREIRA (which nobody mentioned) and the Sandeman which was. Both are very worthy VPs and relative bargains!

I have a case of '80 Ferreira and it escaped my mind. Great port, but the case I have was packaged, shipped, and stored vertical. Not sure why, but it was intentional if you see the OWC. The bottles can vary in oxidation; the best bottles being wonderful the worst - still enjoyable but very tawny.

It is my birth year and the only bottle I was able to buy at a price I deemed reasonable was a bottle of GC.

Sad that 1980 doesn't appear more often. There is a bottle of the Dow on WineBid now but you have to pay $90+15% premium... Feels way rich to me for what it is.
