Tasted after 5 hour decant
This wine was fairly middle of the road and well balanced upon initial inspection. The nose and palate had both good brambly black and red fruits, as well as a certain underbrush component and some cinnamon spice. What was surprising was this wine didn't (at this point) have the abject cinnamon candy note that this wine had at the 1983 retrospective (after 8-10 hours of decant, if I remember). It was much more balanced at this point in this showing than the previous one. After a few more hours, it took on that same cinnamon candy note and slipped into an alcohol and spice heavy wine. Still enjoyable, but less balanced and less easy to enjoy. 91 pts. for its high point. I would also recommend a short decant to enjoy this at its best.
