1984 Kopke Colheita

Post by John M. »

Chestnut Brown with tinge of red; clear rim. Good viscosity. Aroma is slightly nutty and sherryish. It starts off quite bright as liquid vanilla extract with a hint of cashew and caramel turning to a sweet raisin flavor as it finishes. The taste lingers with caramel and raisins, once in awhile roasted nuts, and offers toasty warmth. Even a minute or two later the aftertaste lingers. Occasionally spirity--really a lovely wine: lots of different flavors and a marvelous lengthy finish.

I've now had this over three days and while slightly different each time it has remained fresh and complex.

Bottled in 2013. I tasted this at 0; 24 & 48 hours to date.

Update at 72 Hours: Losing a little freshness and the vanilla taste is gone but a hazelnut has replaced it, including in the aroma. Still marvelous though but better earlier.
