Mahmoud, how was the '86 Cavadinha? I've enjoyed it in the past and am drinking its older sibling tonight ... the '85 Warre's. Just a primary and gorgeous youngster.

Roy, my post was a little misleading. I'm thinking of having the '86 Cavadinha on Christmas Day. A Turkey dinner (not one of my favourites) with relatives who don't drink much let alone appreciate fine wines means I'd like to have something interesting when I get home. A half-bottle of port between my partner and will fit the bill.

PS: A recent disappointing half-bottle of '94 Noval LBV has me wanting to try another. I've got a couple more halves sitting here at home and if the '86 Cavadinha has us wanting more...............

Had this '94 Noval LBV recently also and was disappointed by it too. I know Roy has touted it, but I wonder what has happened to it. Did it fall on its face recently? Is it shut down? or.....

I'd like to find another bottle of this and give it a chance as I've heard several people talk good about it in the past. But it seems like recently it's not doing so well for whatever reason.

I must add the following two after this weekends offline.

1970 Robertson's Rebello Valente VP and the 2000 Quinta do Noval LBV (unfiltered).

Portal Reserve Tawny (no age designation.) So good it will likely become my house tawny and can be had for very attractive pricing for the Canadian market.

Passadouro Unfiltered Ruby (from the Niepoort days).

I tasted this with Ronald, manager of the hotel at the Quinta, in may 2008 and was amazed by the complexity of this wine.

Another candidate is Cockburn 1977. An undeclared gem tasted at the Cockburn Vertical in London in Oct 08.
