Finally getting temps in the high 80s in New England. Enjoying a well chilled bottle of Burmester 10 year Tawny... Yummy stuff.

Had an 1980 Ferreira last night. The case of '80 Ferreira was an oddity that it was imported upright and has been strored upright. Every bottle varies from being quite tawny looking, to being relatively fresh and well preserved. Not really worth doing a review as spectrum of what will be in the bottle is so huge. At least on both sides of the swing it is good either way.

Last night's bottle was quite ripe with coffee notes and a lingering toffee in the mouth. Excellent weight and not hot at all. Bottle was gone with in an hour after 3 hours of decating.

While in Hyannisport over the weekend... No, I was not with the Kennedy's; just down the street at a friend's house. I brought an '83 Fonseca. This vintage seems like it gets little talk. Often put down, but I think those who have put it down should re-visit it. OK, it's not one of Fonseca's best, but it is certainly an enjoyable vintage in its own right. I am halfway through a case I bought a few years ago and was expecting a lot less last night.

Sorry, did not take notes, but I am looking forward to next time I open one. Perhaps previous reviews showed this vintage in an akward phase? Fonseca seem to just keep aging while never being brash or powerful at any stage of its life and this was no exception. Sweet, balanced, little heat... The Fonseca was paired with Malassada's from Provincetown and a Montecristo "A" cigar

Yesterday we drank 1985 Croft, 1980 Sandeman, 1975 Cockburn. Very hot and muggy out. Thankfully, Elys bought a case of Peroni to enjoy along with the port. I cooked a pulled pork on the smoker that went for 14 hours. I started it at 8:30 PM the night before.

1997 Quinta do Tedo that I picked up for a song yesterday... so far it's pretty good, but it was a little hot so I'm hoping some time will help that integrate.

Tedo is a producer I like and wish it was easier to find near me. A producer to watch out for!

I picked up their last 9 bottles this morning... $20.94 each was too good to pass up!

Last night we had a 1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port. Wow! This is a beast, still tannic and quite primary. Very intense and dark. Did SW screw up and mix the label with 2005 vintage? This was a pop and pour on a deck at 10:30 PM, so I was not being critical or took notes. This is a massive port with great acid and lifetime of aging still ahead.

Somehow I finally managed to find time to open two Ports this week.

a. 2004 Dow's LBV Port

b. Dow's 10 year old Tawny Port

I preferred the fine LBV, but the Tawny was certainly respectable.

It's been over 100 degrees the past few days, so that well chilled bottle of Croft Pink Port in the fridge is looking might nice :)

I´ll be a very humble guy and I´ll say a chilled nice Pink Port with a lemon cut, from our great friend Oscar Quevedo...

I came home last night to rain, it's still raining this morning. Great Port drinking weather I must say. But after almost 2 weeks of drinking lots of Port I think I'll take a rain check today...never thought I'd say no to Port
