A bottle of Vertice. Followed by 2007 Quinta do Crasto old vines Reserva. In a great place now, with a long enough decant.

2010 Redoma Branco, Esporao Branco Reserva, 2005 Quinta de la Rosa Reserva, 2004 Rio Bom Cuvee Mario Braga. These 4 were brought to Stewart's new home in celebration.

2011 Delaforce Touriga Nacional Douro Red
Incredibly aromatic, this one is a bit of a bruiser with a very very clipped finish. A decent enough wine, robust and not too complex, but for the $17 paid its no bargain either. My wife and I enjoyed with dinner of pork chops, sesame noodles and grilled asparagus and it went very well with the meal.

A 2012 Quinta do Crasto Douro whites. For an unheralded vintage, this Branco was a standout in a blind lineup of international white wines.

I think that 2012 was a pretty good vintage for the white wines from better producers. The Kopke Branco Reserva was the best that I can recall.

Haven't had that in a long time. How'd it show?

Still so young, but quite spicy, leathery and dry but really delicious. I missed finishing the bottle the next day and had the final glass on day 3 and it showed at its best and that was even with a 4 hour initial decant.

2005 Niepoort Redoma Branco Reserva. WOWOWOW ... but now under a half case is left and at a decade this still has more years to go. Love this one!
Same night, my last bottle of 2002 Niepoort Charme. It was freakin' fantastic, but now what do I do without any left?

I'm drinking a 2011 Quinta de la Rosa that I bought on impulse at the checkout counter at McCarthy and Sheering. It was inexpensive but the McCarthy store is so small that they won't bother stocking a wine if they don't like it. It's been knocking my socks off for the last two nights. Juicy, with a sweet palate that seems more like Napa cab than old world. However, it switches gears on the finish, delivering excellent structure that keeps the wine from feeling flabby or cheap. The nose on it is too dirty to ever be mistaken for CA though...almost reminiscent of a Washington merlot/syrah/cab blend. In terms of a hedonistic bang for the buck, this wine is delivering great value at the moment.

I assume this is their basic lower priced Douro? And thanks always on the look out for good inexpensive Douro wines.

I have six distinct bottles ready for tonight. These are all non-Douro. I will have TNs in the next newsletter.
Last night a 2009 Manz Tinto from Douro. Meh.

I'm trying to figure that out right now. It doesn't say Reserve or Estate on it anywhere. I'm gonna try and grab a case from the distributor this week. I'll let you know when I get to the bottom of it, Andy.

Andy,
Its not the basic Quinta de la Rosa Douro red. It's a Costco Exclusive (at least up here in Seattle) and its actually the 2011 Estate Red. Excellent! I'm heading to costco to rummage for a few more bottles...
