Wooaa, hold the phone mister. You are now in the midst of Fair duties, as such you shall have nothing older than vintage 2012 Coke and Washington tap water until you're done

Tonight after dinner I will be opening a NV Brunheda 40-yr old Tawny Port to celebrate my birthday. We're going to a new Brazillian grill for dinner, so while the theme isn't perfectly Portuguese it's close enough. :-)

Rocha Glorious 50th (A blend of 1937, 1957, 30 and 10 year tawnies)
Orange with yellow and tinge of red.
Deep aromas of butterscotch and toffee
Quite unctuous and round in the mouth, the lower side of acidity, somewhat alcoholic, orange, vanilla,
anise, slightly cloying. Tasty, good, chewy, but not a re-buy at $42 per .375. Perhaps this has seen better days. (7 years since bottling)

89-90 pts.

A bottle of Fonseca Guimaraens 1972 - the best bottle of this port I have ever had! Really rather good.

Port tasting with friends and family the 48 Taylor showed younger than the 63 and was voted the best in the group. :D

You might recall a few weeks ago that I was asking for suggestions for an appropriate port to open to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. Well, we are celebrating today and have opened a bottle of Nacional 1987 - a port I have never tried and which has had some recent poor reviews from fellow port lovers whose palates I know and trust but which also impressed Suckling and Broadbent when drunk in the mid-nineties. I decided that I wanted to try this for myself to see if these contradictory views are the result of a port going through a mid-life crisis in much the same way the Taylor 1985 was doing a couple of years ago.

We also opened bottles of Mouton Rothschild 1982 and Dom Perignon 2002. Happy days.

Hey, Happy Anniversary!

Surely the decision is easy...a port from 1997!
