2008 Niepoort Pisca Vintage Port

A cask sample tasted blind as part of this review of the 2008 vintage.

A lovely purple red colour which is almost translucent. Fresh ripe fruits on the nose. Big and full in the mouth with masses of blackcurrant, gripping acidity and powder-dry tannins. The finish is long and mouthwatering. A deliscious wine with good balance. 91 points.

Do you know if this was a final blend? When we were there in mid-May, they still had the components in separate casks. I am very much looking forward to see this Pisca vs. the 2007 at the same stage.

I don't think it was the final blend and I don't think it will be bottled for some time yet. Perhaps Dirk will drop by here and let us know for sure?

Given how busy this time of year is in the vineyards as you know, the likelihood of him seeing this is far less than his obtaining a view of the Northern Lights.

But one can always hope.
