A cask sample tasted blind as part of this review of the 2008 vintage.

Nose very closed. Big smooth entry with lots of dark brooding fruits. Excellent structure and backbone with good acity and big bold tannins. The finish is very long and dry with dark chocolate and raspberry. A great wine that will last decades. 93 points.

In total agreement with you assessment of this fine 2008. David nailed it with Vargellas.

Definitely one of the stars of the batch I tasted. As with all the others, I'm looking forward to an opportunity to taste the finished wines once they have had some time in bottle. There were some interesting changes in some of the 2007s during last year and it would be good to see if the same thing happens to the 08s.

Which of the 2007s do you feel have morphed the most?

I think the two Vesuvios have swapped places. The Capella didn't do it for me the first time I tasted it but it was spectacular by the end of 2009. Looking back at my notes it's quite interesting to see that I wasn't blown away by the big name Symington wines from my cask sample tastings but by the end of the year I was loving all of them. Is that same thing about to happen again? Time will tell
