Decant: 45 minutes - 45 minutes after decanting this was the palest of the first flight (1896-1927) with a light orange centre and a greening rim. Lots of toffee on the nose with masses of the mandarin. Balanced entry with good sweetness from the golden sultanas. Good development in the mouth with citrus and lively fruit. Fabulous aftertaste that fills the mouth and lasts a very long time. 8/8 or 94/100. Holding together well.
6½ hours after decanting this had developed a nose full of wood ash. Huge acidity in the mouth but still with some balancing sweetness and modest amounts of fruit. The length is enticing but the port is nowhere near as attractive as it was earlier. 89/100. 94 points
