TN: 1970 Croft Vintage Port

Decant: 24 hours - From magnum. 7 hours after decanting this was a deep red in colour, beautifully clear and with a transparent centre. It had a lovely nose of fruit, although the alcoholic heat dominated the nose. On the tongue it fairly elegant but brought flavours of tart tobacco leaf wrapped around redcurrant jelly. The soft and elegant aftertaste went on for a long time and faded to a crisp, fresh celery. 5/6 or 86/100.

11½ hours after decanting this was still tannic and unready, showing simple strawberries and bitter lemon. Not very pleasant although by no means undrinkable. 85/100.

24 hours after decanting, this was much improved and slid down extremely well while passing the time before dinner. Softer and less harsh than the previous night and had turned into a perfectly decent drinking port. 87/100. 87 points
