Decant: 39 days - Transparent appearance, deeep colour but distinct orange / brown tinge. Very subdued nose dominated by alcohol and butterscotch. Sweet into the mouth, pleasant enough but develops bitterness in the mid-palate. Bitterness develops into a leathery, over-ripe melon flavour, reminding me of a tired old tawny. Length is respectable and lasts a long time, filling the mouth with pepper from the alcohol that fades into tones of leather and melon. Even as tired as it is now, this is still an acceptable wine. Would I drink this if offered a glass - certainly if there was no fresher alternative! I've had worse wines than this is showing today. However, I did find this undrinkable when going back to this glass after drinking the same wine that had had between ½ and 2 hours of decanter time. 84 points
