TN: 1963 Morgan Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 0 hours - A bottle purchased from the recent Christie's sale, so ex cellars release. Opened approximately 2 weeks after taking delivery of the wines. Decanted very easily out of a bottle that could be seen through with a strong light behind. The cork crumbled but came out in two pieces with the help of an Ah So. The cork was clearly branded "Morgan 1963".

As the wine was decanted, it gave out a lovely smell of redcurrants and dust with a touch of treacle behind, the spirit was very noticeable. The colour of the wine was a light and attractive rose colour, sparkling in its clarity.

Cold into the mouth. Initial flavours of toffee, treacle and raspberry syrup. Surprisingly good considering this is straight from the bottle. Thick, unctuous and full of tertiary flavours with plenty of fruit remaining. A lovely warm glow from the aftertaste brings with it a dose of liquorice and a long length of of aniseed. 93 points
