Decant: 12 hours - Corney & Barrow bottled, in light green glass. Double decanted off a large amount of very heavy sediment.

Pale brown in colour, with a mahogany rim that faded to pale orange. Spicy, almost curry or coriander like nose oevr the top of a sweet mago chutney. With time (an hour, or so) in the glass this changed to a lively mandarin and cloves that just leapt out of the glass, but swirling lost these tones and simply released an overpowering alcohol.

Initially in the mouth this gives the impression of sweetness, but with a good dose of balancing citrus acidity. Very spicy with that sweet spiced mango chutney again; quite a bite to this port, in a pleasant way. Lively and with plenty going on in the palate, which eventually settles down to be a lovely and rich caramelised Seville orange and white peppercorns.

The aftertaste is mouthfilling, but still elegant and balanced. Full of marmalade and sweet lemon peel. Long and delicious.

This is a fantastic port for those who like their port mature and refined. Simply delicious, this is on a wonderful peak and not likely to slip off for a few years yet. One to drink, but to be in no hurry to drink up. 93 points
