Decant: Just Opened - The Dom Pedro vintage, bottled in 2001. Very deep colour of molasses, colour holding right into the rim. A thick, rich nose of molasses and rubber bands. The theme of density continued with a thick texture on entry, sweet and with lots of complexity and development. Great acidity but a very well focussed wine. A long, long length with stunning complexity in the layers of aftertaste, which just kept going and changing. This was a great wine and was drinking superbly today. There was some discussion as to whether the tasters thought this was a pure wine or whether the balance and vivacity could have come from the wine being refreshed or blended either in barrel or just before bottling. Whatever the answer, the fact remains that this was a great wine. 8/8. 96 points
