2002 Warre's LBV

Somewhat spirity flavor but very mellow/not-hot. In a good spot but thinner than I anticipated. Compared to the thick yet well-rounded 2008, this one is positively mature.
All is fair in love and Warre's

Tasting dinner for my oldest son (41yo) and his five best friends. My goal was to give them a broad overview of Port varieties and to turn them into Port lovers for life.

Croft Pink Port with prosecco as a welcome drink (I know, I know.... ).
Niepoort LBV 2015 versus Niepoort Vintage 2000.
Graham Vintage 1985 versus Fonseca Vintage 1985.
Some preferred Graham as it was more approachable, but we all agreed that the darker coloured Fonseca still has a great future ahead.
Alves de Sousa Vintage 2020 was a surprisingly good companion for the grilled Iberico Secreto (special Spanish pork meat).
Château d'Yquem 2003 for the dessert of grilled pineapple and crème brûlée.
Thereafter cheese, nuts and dark chocolate with
Andresen Colheita 1968 (b. 2023) versus Andresen 1993 (b.2023).
S. Leonardo 20yo (b. 2021) versus S. Leonardo 40yo (b. 2020). Some preferred the 20yo over the 40yo.
Kopke 50yo white (b. 2023), a great white port, but in hindsight misplaced in this line up.
The S. Leonardo 40yo was the overall winner.

Mission accomplished [yahoo.gif]

Given the complete line-up, entirely forgivable.

Not sure what I will open, but I need to open something soon. In the past 14-ish hours we've gotten over 7" of rain at the house here in So. Cal. and it's forecast to continue the next few days. Thankfully less once today is over with.

2016 Taylor Fladgate LBV. I recall it being soft and ready to drink. Then a mystical entity stole it all...

I opened a bottle of Taylor 1963 - which was sublime - and a bottle of Adams 1963 which was really pale and had a soggy cork - but had turned into a delicious and elegant colheita.

1980 Gould Campbell. Very nice...finally. The GC 1980 and 1977 bottles can be hit or miss as far as bad corks. This one although not perfect was pretty good.

I’ve opened a Noval 2097 Colheita to enjoy over the next day or two (or few).

NV Andresen 20 Year Old White Port

On the drier side for what I enjoy in a white Port, but superbly balanced.

1977 Warres
Pop and pour, and probably could have benefitted from some decant time, but still very nice.

2 x 2011 Graham Vintage Port
2 x 2011 Fonseca Vintage Port

... for a wedding party. An additional 1 of each was saved for the bride and groom to take home.
