This bottle was puchased over the summer from Mills Fine Wines in Annapolis.

Opened during our annual Sukkot party. Originally, I had not planned to open any Port ... but my brother-in-law convinced me (after much arm twisting  ) to pop this one.

Normally, I would have decanted, but this was a pop-n-pour. I doubt that this bottle suffered from the lack of time in a decanter. It was quite good.

After pulling the short t-cork, an initial whiff of the bottle showed strong caramel. In the glass, the color was golden brown. First taste (and I barely got past this before the bottle was gone!) was of vanilla, caramel and toffee. There was no heat present at all, and all flavors were well integrated.

I wish that I had more time to savor this, as it was one of the better Colheitas that I have had recently. I think that the bottle was gone in about 20 minutes, and only 4 of us were drinking. Well ... it WAS a 500 ml bottle ...

I will definitely go back to the shop and relieve them of their remaining inventory. They have a good supply of the 1952 Delaforce Colheitas as well. I may need to get a couple of those.

Overall score: 93

I would strongly suggest you do so if the price is right ...

1952 Delaforce Colheita Port
Coffee color. Delivers penetrating tang of mandarin orange, toffee and burnt caramel. Even thicker than the '44 and sweeter as well, this is the Malmsey version. Fantastic symmetry and flavors with a very memorable finish. I poured more of this before departing the Lodge after a couple of dozen Port - it was that tasty. 95 Points
