Tasted July 31st 2010 at the FTLOP 5th Year Anniversary
Bottled in 1955 --- Decanted in 1979
The nose is a bit closed. Dusty. Ruby color with a touch of mahogany. Very much between a colheita and a Vintage Port. Big entry with power and grace. Maybe a bit monolithic. Long long finish. A bit of tannin remains in the finish. As it sits in the glass it starts to show some spirit and is also becoming lighter. A fun and interesting wine. 92 Points

This made for a nice juxtaposition vs. the 1950 Sandeman VP. As you have both with the same score, if you had to choose one of them to drink this weekend, which would it be?

I would be drinking this Garrafeira because it needs drinking up. The 1950 Sandeman was very solid and will last. Given a choice and they were not both in my cellar -- I would pick the Sandeman.
