Those reading this will more than likely have had at least one great bottle this year. If you can't limit your selection to just one ... please feel free to put in two or a handful. It would be very interesting reading what you consider the finest bottle you've come across during 2010. [cheers.gif]

RWC Imperial Malmsey. It doesn't have to have a vintage year to be superb. It's too bad they have no more.

Not the oldest and not (yet) the best of the best, but definitely worth trying and amazing for its young age:
1976 Blandys Terrantez

The most positive surprise, because it is really a solid blend:
J. Faria 5yo sweet Madeira

The best in 2010:
1827 Quinta do Serrado Boal
A classic and wonderful Boal, tasted at a friend's place for the fourth time in my life and i am very impressed - again.

Henriques & Henriques W. S. Boal. Fabulous, complex nose. Great depth of flavor, and long, clean finish.

Close behind - 3 wines from Mannie Berk's Lomelino tasting: 1868 Lomelino Very Old Boal EBH, 1836 Lomelino Bastardo, and Borges "HMB" Terrentz (presumed to be 1862).

Any one of these wines would have made the Madeira-tasting year worthwhile.

Thanks to CellarTracker, I found that my top 3 wines all came from the "Homage To Mario Barbeito" tasting in March.

1) 1860 Barbeito Madeira Terrantez
2) 1907 Barbeito Madeira Malvazia
3) 1910 Barbeito Madeira Sercial

Anybody else have an opinion they'd like to share?

Roy, I'd love to offer an opinion but I've been away from Edmonton for almost the entire year in places where Madeira isn't even available. On top of that Edmonton is a complete backwater when it comes to Madeiraso when I come home there is almost nothing to buy but a few standard brands. There are a few Broadbents kicking around but they are hugely over-priced.

As I've mentioned in another post even the best wine store in town has no Madeira on offer. I guess it's not their fault if there aren't any importers of Madeira.

Cheers......................Mahmoud.

PS: It's not that I don't have any Madeiras, it's just that I want to make sure I don't exhaust what little I have in my cellar. Plus bottle age will add to their enjoyment.
