Ramos Pinto 10-year tawny -- Quinta de Ervamoira

Post by Melanie R. »

Color: Brownish red, fading to orange near the edges. Almost reminds me of cherry cola, but not quite as dark.
Nose: I can almost smell dried fruit, but mostly just the usual "tawny port" smell.
Palate: Chocolate at first, then some slight dark dried fruits, fading to a fairly hot finish, with acidity showing up somewhere about midway through. Finish is drying to the tongue. Slight hints of nuttiness play around the edges at times, but this definitely isn't one of those caramelly, nutty tawnies.
Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused.

My issue with this Tawny is that the spirit needs like a week before it really calms down and can be quite unpleasant initially. The 30 year RP Tawny I had recently was the best Ramos Pinto Port of any I've ever tried.
