Tasted with Master Blender Fernando Oliveira at C.N. Kopke in Vila Nova de Gaia on 04-OCT-2010 as part of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.
Part of the flight that became known as "wines that don't suck." All were outstanding.
1940 Burmester Colheita
bottled 2009
Dark tawny. Some VA, leather. Beautiful in the mouth. Very full bodied. Good citrus, good acidity. Very rich brown sugar/turbinado sugar. Glorious finish.
Score: 96 points. My Port of the visit, narrowly edging out the '57 Kopke. I could have taken the rest of the bottle and gone back to the hotel and it would have been a great day.
