For The Love Of Port

Hindsight being 20-20, 1982 was a year that saw a few producers choosing to declare instead of 1983. Decanted almost 9 hours, what started out as a very sweet VP has slowly changed to a drier profile with lots of leather, no shortage of violets, light tannins still peaking through, and dried cherries on the finish. The palate is showing far more mature than the dark ruby color, this is quite the enjoyable VP.

Nice notes Andy. By coincidence I was served a 1980 Boa Vista a few days ago. My host decanted it in the early afternoon and we were drinking it about 7-8 hours later. I took no notes but it was drinking very well, the spiritiness had blown off, the nose was elegant, and the palate delightful, soft, elegant and beautifully mature. I was truely grateful to my host as it was my first Boa Vista.

Cuban cigars were puffed outside with the last glass of the port (the girls had retired by then), some Cuban rum, and then Old Pulteney 12.

I had a headache later the next day (I blame the cigar, and maybe the Scotch) but the Offley Boa Vista was a lingering memory.
