1998 Cockburn's LBV Port -- "Anno"

Filtered (T-cork), bottled in 2004.

I've been sipping on this over the past four days and it's held up nicely with little noticable change. Since it's a filtered style of LBV I decided not to decant it.

Medium-dark, slightly rusty red color - no purple left in it. On the nose I get cherry pie filling, burnt caramel, leather and tar - quite a matured character although I suppose 6 years in barrel and another 7 in bottle with the T-cork might account for that. The palate starts with sweet cherry and raisin fruit - soft, round and light/medium bodied with fully resolved tannins and enough acidity to offset the sweetness and keep it in balance. A dash of spirit and spice rounds out the medium length finish that tails off with grape skin and caramel-apple notes. Almost reminds me more of a young tawny at this stage than an LBV but in a very likeable way. Very enjoyable. 87 pts, Tasted 2/11
