2004 Ramos Pinto LBV Port

Traditional (unfiltered), bottled in 2008. I decanted this through cheesecloth though it wasn't actually necessary as it hasn't thrown any sediment. These notes were taken after 9+ hours:
Dark purple but not quite opaque, turning a bright ruby on the rim. Dense aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, root beer and unsweetened chocolate portend a rich palate and this proves to be the case. Concentrated strawberry and raspberry fruit fills the mouth and remains in the forefront for a considerable length of time before it eventually gives way to a burst of juicy acidity and then a wallop of mouth-drying tannins.The finish is medium-long with the prominent tannins hanging on all the way. A delicious LBV with lots of depth and a brawny but well balanced structure. One of the better LBVs I've had and one that could probably age for a long time and continue to improve. Could pass for a VP. 91+ pts, Tasted 2/11
