2003 Fonseca LBV Port

From a batch of LBVs that I tasted over a couple of days in late 2010.
2003 Fonseca LBV
unfiltered, bottled 2008
Color: Garnet and red. Very center of glass is opaque.
Nose: Red fruit medly with some purple adding smoothness.
Palate: Red currants, bing cherry, but a bit of a cough syrup overtone. Good tannins and decent acidity. Feels like it needs more bottle age to settle down.
Finish: Nice fruits and heat. A bit of a bitter edge.
Score: 89 points. A very solid LBV that could use more time to mature in the bottle.
