From a batch of LBVs that I tasted over a couple of days in late 2010.
1984 Smith Woodhouse LBV
unfiltered, bottled 1988
Color: Orange/red, almost tawny in color. Could probably fool you into thinking it's a 10-yr old Tawny based on color alone.
Nose: Secondary and aged. Some alcohol.
Palate: Very secondary. Fruits are drying and caramelizing. Pleasant. Minimal tannins and acidity. Faint cinnamon.
Finish: Old fruits like dates. A bit hot and slightly sharp, but then evens out nicely and is quite long.
Score: 87 points. A nice quaff, but probably not what you're expecting from an LBV.
