TN: 2007 Callabriga Douro Red

Post by Russ K »

have opened two of these, and are worthy of a mention.

A strong compliment to savory foods, this wine is dark red to almost purple in color, has a reasonable tannic structure, slightly under-ripened plum flavor, and a good amount of pepper/spice to the finish. 88+. I think this could be good through 2015 to 2017.... almost as good as it gets for $14 bucks....

I've had the 2006 and thought it to be very nice especially for the price, $7.00 at my local Trader Joes market. So it's good to hear the 2007 is also nice. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it and give it a go when I find it.

No Trader Joe's in Colorado...oh I wish. For 7 bucks that is the steal of the century.
I should have mentioned it does throw a bit of sediment, should be decanted.

It was best fairly fresh from the decanter, after about 6 hrs it lost its lustre for me...

Just got tired of the same bottle or was it starting to fade?

opened two more. 5/5/11

FIrst was cooked. chucked it. different supplier on that bottle, two left, I am worried.

Second, decanted throughout the night over 4 hours. A little weaker than the first two bottles, could of been the disappointment from the first. STill held up relatively well.
This wine must be filtered and strained, quite a bit of sediment / deposits on the cork. Do NOT pop and pour, you will be eating chunks...
