1966 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Dow Vertical
New York City
March 19, 2011

My wife participates in the ACPT every year, and conveniently there is a lively Port tasting group in New York City. So every year we plan a Port tasting to coincide with the tournament, and this was the 2011 edition.

1966 Dow Vintage Port

Color: Medium red, almost garnet. Slightly darker than the 1970, 1977, and 1985.
Nose: Slightly musty, some milk chocolate, and again some odd blueberry that doesn't seem possible.
Palate: Very nice. Some tannins remain, so this probably still has a couple of years left before it plateaus. Mix of primary and secondary red fruits.
Finish: Somewhat sour, which drags down the overall impression.

Score: 91 points. A better finish could have moved this up a point or two.
