2005 Niepoort LBV Port

Post by John M. »

Pop and Pour for one glass, then had the rest 3 hours later (out of a 375mm bottle). Dark, dense purple color with ruby at the edges. Not much aroma, just a bit of light sweet floral over a dark fruit base. The predominant flavor over the grapes is blackberry/bing cherry with just a hint of anise (black licorice) at the end. Good mouth-feel, juicy. Despite limited decant, the alcohol and tannins were nicely integrated. Medium finish that leaves a slight licorice tang. One of my favorite LBVs and I was surprised it was so good despite limited decant time.
