TN: 1863 Barbeito Bual Vintage Madeira

Post by Andy Velebil »

Bottled March 2010 and decanted 5 days. Color is a golden brown center with a green edge. Lots of wood varnish and V.A. on the nose. Loads of acidity, old wood on an expansive palate that is the intro to a very long lingering finish. While I enjoyed the 1880 Sercial better with the 11 year old Montecristo "A" this by itself was a fantastic bottle.

Excellent wine to say the least. Always one that impresses. However, it really would have been fine to decant this for 24 hours as it is a recent bottling and there's no need to worry about bottle stink, or other factors that would "require" a longer decant. However, no harm ... no foul. [cheers.gif]

These can often be a hard draw due to their size, this wasn't as bad as newer ones I've had. Otherwise it had mellowed nicely and was a very good smoke.
