- 2005 Quinta do Portal Porto Late Bottled Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (6/8/2011)
A very solid and delicious LBV. Excellent concentration, almost pulpy in the mouth; weighty but with good vibrancy. Ripe, but not pruney. Loads of plums, violets and baking spices linger on the palate. Medium sweet and well balanced. Grippy and mouthwatering on the finish. I will be buying more. Wonderful match with blue cheese. Good value. (92 pts.)

John,
Why not read the LBV article on the

homepage and you'll see that Marco and I are both very enthused by this LBV.
Marco,
What LBV's do you remember trying that you enjoyed more than this one?

Hmmm... some of my top recent LBVs include the 2003 Taylor, 2003 Noval... perhaps my favorite was the 2003 Niepoort. Love those 2003s...

No quibble there, all 3 are great. I do love the 2005 Portal and think it is the best LBV they've made to date. One of the best finishes of any LBV, 2003 or otherwise.
