- 2005 Quarles Harris Porto LBV - Portugal, Douro, Porto (6/25/2011)
Double decanted one hour before tasting in order to help it show its best. Very dark ruby color. The palate is a bit hot with alcohol that may still burn off. The wine has a good medium sweetness with a decidely ddry finish, much like Dow's but even more so. A bit high-toned and slightly "green" on the finish. It's a simple port but has sufficient quality to make it an everyday drink. At $12.99 at Trader Joe's, I think it's a QPR. (85 pts.)

Hi John,
Even though you were the lowest score for this Port on CellarTracker, I bet you are the only serious Portophile of that group. Anyway, I am hoping you did not finish the bottle as often times I find that LBV is best 3 or 4 days open. Wonder if you have any left to wait and see in a couple of days if the spirit has decreased and the overall harmony of this wine seems better. Please let us know!

Hi Roy,
Thanks much for the kind words.
There was some of the bottle left, so I just gave it a try. It is definitely better. The green taste is gone. It's still a bit hot from the alcohol, but that has moderated as well. It's still pretty dry on the finish, but better than before. It's a better wine for sure. I would probably bump it to 88 points.

Glad it got a little better, but as you mentioned for the price it sounds like a very good deal.

Nice. I'll take an 88 point LBV for that price anyday.
Thanks for the 2ndary notation, John.
