1966 Warre Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto (10/29/2011)
Cranberry-garnet to orange-yellow at the rim, not showing much depth of color but still looking securely middle-aged. Smokey caramel and praline nose, with lovely passing notes of Christmas pudding and spice. Buttery caramel, chocolate, cinnamon and ash on the palate. Slightly hot and washed out into the lovely, fresh and long finish. Just a bit syrupy but generally in fine balance and very lively, with a bit of acidic structure remaining. Very fine showing. Oporto bottled EWR import, base neck, slightly raised cork and slight signs of seepage. This bottle was a bit spirity at first, but really came in to balance after 12 hours in the decanter. (93 pts.)
