20 Year Old Tawny Port by Villar d’Allen

Post by Rune EG »

Bottled 2010. Blended at Quevedo. Only 500 bottles. Decanted 4 hrs, which is needed as at opening there is spirit and some kind of chemicals that needs to disappear. Very dark brownred colour. Deep nutty and smoked aroma with powerful spices. Full body, powerful and elegant with a nutty style. Dried fruits. A bit sharp towards the end. Long aftertaste. This is a different style of 20 yrs tawny, which in a way is refreshing as many tawnies can be too similar to each other. If I understood the Allen-family correctly, this 20 yrs old includes 1/12 of port from 1827, which probably explains part of the unique taste. 92 pts.
