NV Niepoort VV Tawny Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: Not Known - Dirk Niepoort introduced this bottle by saying that his grandfather had set out to make a small batch of the best port that was possible. This is the result. The base wine of this bottling is pre-phyloxera, in barrel for 100 years before being transferred to demijohns. A blend that was bottled in the 1960s.

Deep brown in colour and 50% opaque. Huge nose, lots of VA and dominated by sour rhubarb fruit. Huge impact on the palate, intense and concentrated; very acidic - a massive and clearly old wine. Huge length. Just stunning port. 98 points
