1963 Taylor Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 2 hours - A mid shoulder fill from an unknown UK bottling, sealed rather crudely with brittle black wax stamped with the 4X logo and the words Taylors 1963. The bottle had been seeping partly because of cork weevil and partly because of a crack running the length of the bottle from low shoulder to the base!

Mid -orange in colour, perhaps 30% opaque - looking very elderly. Some sweet syrup on the nose, subdued rather than vibrant. Thick and sweet entry, with some concentrated lime and sour orange, nice balancing acidity. Very hot - burningly hot - aftertaste and a modest finish. Clearly a compromised bottle. 82 points
