1963 A. Pinto Dos Santos Junior Vintage Port

Part of a three bottle lot I picked up on a friends behalf. One bottle had a fair amount of active seepage and necessitated drinking now, with his permission. This note is from that bottle so keep the bottle condition in mind when reading this review as I have no idea what a well condition bottle is like as I've never had this before, let alone ever seen a bottle of this before. Bottled in an old brown glass bottle and "bottled in Oporto" in 1965. The back label indicates it was "Specially bottled for George Linton's Private Reserve" and imported by Connoissuer Wine Imports in El Cerrito California 94530 U.S.A. The color was far more tawny-ish, a cloudy golden brown (even after being filtered through cheesecloth). The nose was also tawny with allspice and maple sugar. A soft and spicy palate quickly gave way to burnt orange peel and mahogany. Not complex at all but its softness and the spices keep it interesting. However, the finish on this bottle is simple and very spirity which significantly detracts from the overall experience. This bottle shows far past its best days.
