The Zachy's The La Paulée Auction auction is this Thursday and Friday. Not much Port as the focus is Burgundy. The only lot I found of interest is #255. Here's the lot, with my estimates of the bottle values not degraded for condition:

Mixed Port
bottom neck or better unless noted
• Constantino 1920 (1)
just below top shoulder
• Constantino 1924 (1)
just below top shoulder, lightly scuffed label
• Dow 1960 (1) $150
very top shoulder
• Quinta do Noval 1963 (1) $100
• Graham 1970 (1) $130
wine-stained and lightly torn label
• Warres 1970 (1) $70
wine-stained label
• Fonseca 1977 (1) $200
• Graham 1983 (1) $70
• Taylor Fladgate 1983 (1) $80, or 0
• Warres 1983 (1) $60
• Dow 1985 (1) $60
opaque bottle, lightly scuffed label
• Graham 1985 (3) $85 x 3
opaque bottles, one lightly torn label, one nicked label,
scuffed labels
• Quinta do Noval 1985 (1) $40
scuffed label
• Smith Woodhouse 1985 (1) $60
• Warres 1985 (1) $60
255 above 17 bottles per lot $1100-1700
Value? First two? Others: $1255 / 1.22 = $1028.

I'm contemplating bidding, but probably don't want to spend $1000 for that.

The next Acker auction is March 3rd. Here are the Port lots.

160 Fonseca Vintage Port - Vintage 1994
1x12 bottle owc
12 bottles per lot $1000-1400

Above 22 half-bottles and 16 bottles per lot $1500-2000

715 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port - Vintage 1955

6 bottles per lot $1800-2400

716 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port - Vintage 1963

Warre’s Late Bottled Vintage Port
- Vintage 1977 8bsl, 8wrl, 4wisl, 8sos (8)
Above 18 bottles per lot $1200-1600

I'm definitely interested in #160 and might bid on that one. #712 is very interesting, but more than I can spend. Anyone interested in a split? Most of the others are interesting too, but I haven't given them deep thought yet.

Eric, your tempting me on that split, more cash down the tubes! 713 is attractive in the lower range too....

160, 712, 713, and 714 all interest me and are all way outside my solo price range. And storage capacity, for that matter. I could probably be easily talked into some sort of group purchase/split if that helps. [cheers.gif]

Man... with 714 I could almost make G85 my house Port for a good long while!

Marc J and I agreed to a bid and split for this, but it went for more than our max, selling at $1600 x 1.22 = $1952. I guess some people valued those Constantinos more than we did.

I'd go in on the 711 and 712 actually

for the 712, I'd probably be willing to take a 6 pack of each.

glenn

since i see you in march.

let me know what you're thinking.

acutally i see their low price of 3200 $ after 20% buyers + 10% tax means that if it went for low bid
the lot would cost 4225$ which rounds out to 192$/average per bottle

The fonseca 70 only sells for 110$/btl from acker's own inet auction.
which would put the F63 at a whopping~ 290$/btl

It would have to sell for below 2400$ to even make this lot worthwhile and i doubt the reserve is 800$ below low ask.

I'll leave the Graham's lots to others. Marc J and I are putting in a bid for lot #160. I'll come back and update if I can go in on #712 or others.

Looks like a couple of good deals on the Taylors (lots 717 and 718), but otherwise nothing to write home about. [shrug.gif]
