For The Love Of Port

This was the odd ball "give away" part of an older VP and Colheita mixed lot I picked up at auction I've mentioned before. I've narrowed down the bottling date of this to around 9 years ago. I must admit I went into this with very low expectations given how old this basic Ruby is. There isn't a lot of complexity in this, just straight forward licorice, dates, and a touch of cedar showing up on the clipped finish. Given that description, it's actually really hard to describe the sensation of drinking this. But best I can describe it's like a combination of a really old filtered LBV and an over the hill basic Port. Still drinkable but without the freshness young basic Rubies possess it has seemingly lost its "soul." I'm not really sure what to make of it and it's not really fair to score this since it wasn't intended to be aged this long. Educational it was.
