1976 Rocha Colheita Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Bottled 2006; 375 ml bottle; pop-n-pour the first night, a small serving finished off four days later.

Low but noticeable warmth the first night, more prominant days later. Lots of caramel and some brown sugar too. This still had a bit of red color too, and some fruit, strawberry being the most identifiable. Glenn claims a colheita generally shows ten years younger than a TWIOA, and that was definitely the case here. Still vibrant with nice acid and full body.

I recall there was some cinnamon the first night. As I finish it off, it is fainter, more like a true cinnamon instead of cassia bark. Also tonight I get a jelly character, which is interesting as I often get jammy flavors in Port, but this is distinctly more like jelly, faint orange marmelade jelly, which doesn't exactly make sense.

My brother bought these from the buyer's op too and two days ago sent me an email that he was really liking this bottling. I've not had it in quite awhile, but interesting to hear both of your impressions. Thanks Eric!
