Congratulations to Portugal

Post by Roy Hersh »

Nice 1-0 defeat of Czech Republic today, on a fine header from C. Ronaldo, after he had already struck the post twice, barely missing goals. Portugal had LOTS of scoring ops and it seemed that CZE was badly outplayed. The semi-final game of Portugal vs. the winner of Spain/France match ... should be fantastic. Can't wait!

Yeah that was some pretty good futbol. I'm also looking forward to the Spanokopita vs. Schnitzel match tomorrow. Given the animosity that the Greek populace has towards some comments by the German chancellor Angela Merkel, this could turn out to be a very spirited affair - and perhaps an upset is in the making here.

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany: "We will spot the Greeks 3 goals on Friday."
Antonis Samaras, Prime Minister of Greece: "We will have to vote on that."

the battle of Iberia

Well, now it's Spain vs. Portugal. This should be an epic confrontation, and perhaps offer some evidence to suggest the Euro is, in spite of its relative lack of prestige, a tougher competition than the World Cup. The last time these countries faced each other on the pitch was in South Africa in the last round of the Group stage, and the vuvuzela droning was the highlight of the evening. This should be a very different result.

About two more hours to go to the Spain match... I think I'll take the afternoon off work...

Regardless of the outcome, I expect the enthusiasts here to conduct themselves with nobility, dignity and restraint. :snooty:
