Cheapest place to buy Scotch Whisky in Europe

Post by Frederick Blais »

I need to buy around 20 bottles of scotch whisky of good quality and make it ship to Portugal. I am looking for something similir in quality to Glenmorangie 12 years old Scotch Whisky. Something fruity, not too peaty, while it can have a little of it. While I was in Portugal I did see some really cheap bottles around 15 euros but those shops did not have the volume I was looking for. Now on the internet, I can't find anything under 40 Euros for such quality.

Any help is appreciated. I am trying to make some Port finish Scoth Whiskey experimentations.

Many of the Speyside whiskies had some sort of sherrywood finish. If you want to do the experiment proper, you should try to avoid this, and have a whisky that has been solely on Bourbon cask. Oban 14YO would be a good one, and fits your description. But to have a real good feel of what the whisky does on port cask you ideally need a cask strength whisky, that you can water down to +/- 40% later. These will obviously be more expensive. Hope this helps.

BTW, there are a few port wood finish whiskies on the market. From the top of my head I know at least Famous Grous (blend) and The Balvenie (Single Malt) do them. There must be others as well.

@Ronald, the Cask Strenght idea is interesting, I did not think about it.

@Derek, because I want to create something unique that does not exists on the market yet :)

@Moses, I need an easy way to make it deliver to Portugal, that's why being in Montreal, a website based in Europe selling good stuff at cheap price would be the ideal for me.

Good luck on that one [cheers.gif]

Hard liquor is a rip off in Europe. Heck, even Duty Free is a rip off compared to local stores for me.

Fred,

Did you know you can search for whisky on Wine Searcher?

If it's a whole case, maybe fast US shipping is not such a bad idea. $200?
